SARDINIA – ISLE OF RIDE

SARDINIEN – ISLE OF RIDE

The Mediterranean motorcycle paradise

The second largest island in the Mediterranean offers world-class gravel- and asphalt roads! Those who built the roads here must all be GS enthusiasts! Add to that the outstanding views, Sardinian cuisine, fantastic people and warm early summer winds. In short, a perfect motorcycle experience!

This tour takes us on a mix of wonderful gravel roads, challenging mountain roads, overgrown forest roads and silky-smooth asphalt roads from east to west and north to south on Sardinia.

The 6 nights we stay in Sardinia are divided into 3 different hotels. The first and last night we stay by the sea just a few kilometres from Olbia Costa Smeralda airport (OLB). We then stay 2 nights at Lago Omedo, and 2 nights in Arbatax. So every other, of the 5 riding days, we do loops that comes back to the same hotel. This gives us great possibilities to adapt the riding to your likings!

You should have basic gravel experience to enjoy this tour fully. If you have not ridden gravel before, we recommend that you complete Offroad School BASIC before the tour. If you have been with us on e.g. Portugal – Algarve Mountains before, this is a perfect next tour!

The riding

Sardinia offers world-class motorcycle roads. Some of the best we’ve ridden! About half of the time on this tour is spent on gravel and the other half on asphalt. Of course, in a pleasant mix, so that after an active gravel stage, we get to cool down on the asphalt for a while before it’s time to hit the gravel again.

We ride everything from easy-to-ride sweeping gravel roads to exciting technical mountain roads and almost overgrown forest roads. We offer easier roads for those who want to relax a bit and advanced alternatives for those who are looking for a challenge. Also the asphalt roads in Sardinia holds the highest fun factor, silky smooth with endless “racetrack” curves.

During the days we split into several groups according to skills, tempo and wishes.

Food & Hotel

The 6 nights we stay in Sardinia are divided into 3 different hotels. The first and last night we stay by the sea about 20 min drive from Olbia Costa Smeralda airport (OLB). We then stay 2 nights at Lago Omedo, and 2 nights in Arbatax. Every other of the 5 riding days we do day trips and come back to the same hotel, which gives us good opportunities to adapt the riding to your wishes! The hotels are of good to very good standard, with shower and toilet on the room, throughout the tour. Part of a twin room is included in the price and single rooms can be booked for an additional fee (price for this is stated in the booking).

Breakfast, lunch and coffee are included on all riding days. At the hotels or nearby there is always a good restaurant where we normally have dinner together. Some evenings there are several restaurants to choose from. Lunch during riding days we usually eat at a cozy local restaurant.

Our start/finish hotel is located just a few kilometres from Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB). Day 1 is reserved for arrival. We recommend that you are at the hotel no later than 16.00 for a welcome meeting, information about the motorcycles and dinner. If you arrive early, we suggest that you take a walk down to the turquoise Mediterranean Sea, just 700 meters from the hotel!

On an exciting mix of gravel and asphalt we make our way along airy mountain slopes and through lush valleys from Olbia to Abbasanta. As we approach the west coast, the landscape opens up and offers us fantastic views with the Mediterranean Sea as a backdrop.

Our hotel is located in the middle of the Sardinian agricultural landscape, and you can make yourself extra at home as we stay here for two nights. The hotel also has a relax area with pool and sauna. The closest neighbours to the hotel are two local restaurants, a cozy pizzeria and a well-reputed à la carte restaurant.

The first part of this day goes on asphalt. Not just any asphalt, but on some of Sardinia’s most spectacular asphalt roads, such as the SP 105 between Alghero and Bosa. If you feel like a gravel challenge during the afternoon, you will get it when we cross Monte Urtigu at an altitude of almost 1 000 meters. If you instead want to continue on curvy asphalt for the rest of the day, that is also an option. As we return to the same hotel today, there is also the opportunity to use the hotel’s relax area and take a day off.

Today we cross Sardinia’s highest mountain range when heading east. The day offers airy gravel roads at an altitude of up to 1 300 meters, we ride through massive cork oak plantations and to the high-altitude dams along the Flumendosa River. When we cross the mountains, the magical view of Sardinia’s east coast opens up for us. We ride silky smooth and wonderfully curvy asphalt roads down to Arbatax where we will spend two nights at the same picturesque hotel on the Mediterranean coast.

Today there will be a mix of smooth winding asphalt and gravel roads southwards. We ride some of the best parts of the SS 125 before heading north over the mountains again. Once again, we land at the hotel in Arbatax and as we return to the same hotel today there is also the option of a longer or shorter riding day. Of course, there is also the option to take it easy and use the hotel’s pool, jacuzzi, Turkish sauna or the beach in front of the hotel.

Time to head north again. But first we’ll ride some of the most thrilling roads Sardinia has to offer. Among them Passo Ghenna Silana on Strada Statale 125 Orientale with a view of the Gulf of Orosei. Once back at our base hotel we sum up the week and enjoy the last dinner together.

Time flies when you’re having fun and the adventure is over for this time. If you don’t have to leave early, you have the opportunity to enjoy the hotel’s pool, or perhaps a walk to the beach before it’s time to head to the airport. Luckily, there are more tours to join, so hopefully it won’t be too long until we see each other again!

It guarantees that your tour with us will be a safe and memorable adventure – without a lot of waiting and worries. It is also a safety net if an accident should occur. First aid equipment is also available on the tour guide motorcycles, and all our tour guides are medically trained.

Luggage transport

During the tour, we transport your luggage between the different hotels. After all, a motorcycle without luggage gives a much better riding experience, and opens up the possibility of choosing significantly more challenging routes! In connection with the welcome meeting, you will receive a 50 liter luggage roll with your name on it. This is then transported by our support vehicle between the different hotels.

  • You can always leave the luggage you don’t need to bring with you locked up at our start/finish hotel!

To think about

  • This tour starts and finish just south of Olbia, approx. 20 min drive from Olbia Costa Smeralda airport (OLB). Day 1 and day 7 are set aside for arrival and departure. On day 1, we recommend that you  are  at the hotel no later than 16.00 for welcome meeting and dinner.
  • Information about the easiest way to get from the airport to our hotel can be found in the welcome information we send out before the tour.
  • Remember that you must have travel insurance in case you get sick or injured during the trip, most people have this through their home insurance. Check this with your insurance company. A European insurance certificate is also good to have with you if you are European.
  • It is our strongest recommendation that you have some kind of hydration system, as you need a lot of water during the riding days.
  • Always ride with full protective riding gear in the form of an approved integral or motocross helmet (flip-up helmets must be closed during all riding), approved back protection, shoulder protection, elbow protection, knee protection, gloves and strong motocross or adventure boots. The weather in the mountains can vary, so make sure your clothes are waterproof. The temperature normally vary from around 10-25 degrees Celsius.
  • We will of course adapt if you have any food allergies, in that case let us know at least 4 weeks before departure.
